Oil Skimmer Information
Oil skimmers are a proven effective method to remove oil from marine oil spills. The overall scale for oil skimmers ranges from large open sea systems designed to address oil spills in sea conditions, down to small skimmers used to remove oil from shallow water areas.
The Skim Oil device is specially designed for use in shallow water such as in near shore areas and in marsh areas. The Skim Oil skimmer is fitted with a floating weir making it highly effective in removing oil from the surface of the water and minimizing the amount of water handled.
The Skim Oil skimmer is lightweight and made of high strength polyethylene making it easy to deploy in the field and easy to handle. A single operator can effectively control the skimmer device and remove significant volumes of oil in a short period of time.
Working from a marine vessel or from a pier or land area the operator can direct the position of the skimmer by an attached tether or a lightweight aluminum or fiberglass pole. The operator directs the skimmer near the oil on the surface to draw the oil into the skimmer. The rate of pumping liquids from the skimmer draws the oil over the weir into the skimmer where it is pumped into nearby oil / water separator or container. Increasing the rate of pumping automatically lowers the floating weir allowing for collecting more oil. The floating weir can draw as little as 1/8 inch up to 2 inches of oil from the water surface.
The Oil Skim skimmer can be used in an integrated system with skimmer device, diaphragm pump and oil/water separator providing a total solution for removing oil from the environment.
